Our Team

The Record Blog is a Malaysian-based independent music blog launched in 2012 specialised in curated pop content on new music, albums, music videos, live events, as well as special thinkpieces on the latest in pop culture. The website has attracted thousands of readers from every continent each month and is planning to expand its brand within the next few years. TRB is currently running for free thanks to their dedicated and passionate editorial staffs and music contributors.

Shawal Ras is the founder and editor-in-chief of The Record Blog. Prior to this, he has written for Esquire Malaysia, The Score Magazine, IIUMToday, and other national publications. He received his BA in Communication (Journalism) from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and is currently pursuing his masters. Fun facts: He's the king of cats and a discreet emo-wannabe but way too purple to be one.

Vimal Esvaren is the associate editor at The Record Blog as well as a staff writer for Astelier, a Malaysian-based luxury magazine. He has written for several national publications and was a dedicated contributor to TRB prior to his inclusion into the team in 2014. He received his BA in English Language and Literature Studies from University of Science, Malaysia (USM). He's a Ravenclaw by mind and a Thunderbird by soul.

Siti Wajihah Kholil is the producer and creator of The Record Blog's special KPopCast YouTube series, TempoYaas. She's also a freelance researcher and has written for several national publications, including KL Lifestyle. She received her BA in Communication (Broadcasting) from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and an International Masters (Regional Integration) from the Asia-Europe Institute of University of Malaya (UM). The reigning monarch of Bangsar, Waji, takes delight in busting some hip hop moves and catching up to The Big Bang Theory in her free time.
